"Greeted as a Friend & Treated Like Family"

Herniated discs are a fairly common broblem that affect many people mostly in the low back and neck.  Most herniated discs happen in the low back most commonly at the L5 level and followed by L4, and L3.  After that the neck becomes the most common area affeted in the C4-T1 levels.

All of the discs in your spine are made up of two parts.  The center called the nuceus pulposis which has the consistancy of mashed up jello, and the outer rings that provide the support called the anulus fibrosis made of cartalige simmilar to the tip of the nose.(see fig 1)

When the center nucleus pulposis is put under too much pressure it is forced to push out the outer fibers and creates a disc prolapse that can put pressure on the nervous system.   (see Fig 1, 3)

When pressure is put on the nerves of the spine pain that follows the same course the nerve is the most common symptom. (see fig 4)  This pain can be very intense and very debilitating.

At Active Life & Health Center we help people with herniated discs on a regular basis using decompression therapy that takes the pressure off of the disc and allows for proper healing over time.  In research studies this has shown to be up to 84% effective when combind with conservative Chiropractic care and mild Physical Therapy procedures.
